WOMAN AND CAT
canvas, oil, 70,5x60cm
2021
The woman’s face is almost hidden behind the cat, and it is precisely this closeness that gives the work its force. Black fur, pale skin, rough fingers, a pressed cheek, half-closed eyes — everything here is built on an intensely close, almost wordless contact. The cat looks outward directly and warily, keeping its own independence, while the woman seems to sink into this touch as into a form of shelter, warmth, and final calm. Because of that, the image does not become sentimental: it contains not only tenderness, but also fatigue, loneliness, and the need to hold a living being near.
For me, this work is about a quiet intimacy that does not require explanation. What matters most is not the subject, but the quality of touch itself: the hands hold gently, yet firmly, as if afraid of loss. The contrast between the dark mass of clothing and fur and the softly lit face and hands gathers the whole space into a single emotional knot. That is why the image reads not as a domestic scene with a pet, but as a moment of deep human attachment, where care and inner vulnerability become almost inseparable.
